The Importance of Regular Monitoring During TRT (and what do we monitor?)

While your regimen may be tailored to you, most of our clients undergo regular monitoring of specific labs to determine the efficacy and effects of their treatment protocols.

As with all medications, testosterone replacement therapy can increase the risk for other medical conditions, such as:

  • Sleep apnea
  • Increased risk for stroke
  • High blood pressure
  • Worsening urinary complications
  • Polycythemia (increases concentration in hemoglobin)

You should discuss the potential risks, your medical history, and any medications you consume for other medical conditions with a TRT provider before using testosterone replacement therapy injections as part of long-term treatment.

Labs

Initial Laboratory Evaluation

This will be ordered during your initial quick consultation so that your results will be available during your first evaluation appointment.

Blood and Electrolyte Panels

These labs help us obtain an overall picture of your health.

Hormone Levels (including Thyroid)

Many different hormones play a role in men's health. We want a baseline to determine if a) you're low on testosterone and b) you may have other hormonal imbalances that need to be addressed

HgA1c

Many symptoms associated with Low-T are also associated with Type 2 Diabetes. This test helps determine how well your body has been managing blood sugars over the last 3 months.

PSA

SA stands for ‘Prostate Specific Antigen.’ PSA is a protein produced by prostate cells, and it serves as a general marker of prostate health. It also gives us a sign to dig a little deeper if something looks out of the ordinary.

Lipid Panel

Vitamin D

Many symptoms associated with Low-T are also associated with Vitamin D deficiency.

Inflammatory Markers

Quarterly Lab Evaluations

These labs may need to be done every 3 months.

Hormone Levels

H&H

Any other abnormal labs we discovered earlier

Symptom Specific Evaluations

This is at the discretion of the provider. It is likely labs will be ordered 6 weeks after starting TRT to check for adverse side effects.
