An IM (Intramuscular) injection is a method for administering medication directly into the muscles. This technique enables the medication to be absorbed rapidly into the bloodstream, as muscle tissue has a richer blood supply compared to the tissue just beneath the skin. Additionally, muscles can accommodate a larger volume of medication than subcutaneous tissue.
Some drugs are destroyed by the digestive system when you swallow them. The stomach acids that aid in the natural breakdown of food also break down some supplements, and the body will only absorb a small amount when ingested orally. In addition, as a person gets older the body’s ability to absorb supplements through digestion continually decreases.
